SCHUMAN CENTER

Periodontics is the Treatment of Gum Disease

At Schuman Center Dental Aesthetics, we’re experts in advanced periodontics therapies, such as root planing and scaling, gum grafting, sinus lifting and bone grafting.

In many cases, we can even provide the revolutionary Pinhole® Surgical Technique. This modern approach to periodontics involves creating a tiny hole to shift gum tissue down to cover an exposed root. For those who are a candidate for this approach, there’s no grafting or cutting of gum tissue, and recovery time is much shorter.

Scheduling regular dental visits can help prevent gum disease.

GOOD NEWS

You can prevent gum disease

Most cases of gum disease are caused by poor dental hygiene. You can prevent gum disease (and even treat it in its early stages) by:
  • Brushing your teeth regularly (and with proper technique)
  • Flossing
  • Using an antiseptic mouth rinse (to kill germs in hard-to-reach places)
However, when the disease progresses into periodontitis, the gums gradually pull away from the teeth. A person with advanced periodontitis can lose teeth, bone, and tissue. If you are experiencing these symptoms, call Dr. Schuman at 314-432-1444 right away!

If you’re concerned about your gums, almost every case is treatable! Schedule an appointment so we can take care of you.
