Dental Bridges

What is a Dental Bridge?

A dental bridge is a false tooth (or series of teeth) anchored to existing teeth on either side of the gap it fills. Just like a bridge!

Candidates for dental bridges are those who:

  • Lost one or more teeth to trauma, an extraction, or decay
  • Do not have a root to attach a crown to
  • Have a jaw or gums that cannot receive an implant

We install bridges in qualified patients to:

  • Preserve their natural bite
  • Keep teeth in proper alignment
  • Fill out sunken cheeks (for those with a larger gap)
  • Give people who have been hiding their smile a confidence boost

What is it like to get a dental bridge?

First, Dr. Schuman will evaluate your situation to make sure a dental bridge is the right choice for you. Next, he’ll carefully sculpt the surrounding teeth, shaping them to serve as anchors for the bridge. You shouldn’t feel any pain or discomfort — Dr. Schuman will give a numbing agent first.
When your teeth are ready, our staff will gather 3D images of your bite to send to a lab. There, a technician will custom-create a bridge for you. Once your dental bridge is complete, we’ll bring you back in for an appointment to have the tooth bonded.

Do you live in the St. Louis area? Do you think you need a dental bridge (or some other reconstructive work)? Our consultations are always free. Schedule an appointment and discover how we can best serve you.
