Toward That Beautiful Smile

Though no one wants an extensive treatment, when it’s necessary, it should be performed with your short- and long-term comfort in mind. That’s how we do things at Schuman Center Dental Aesthetics.

What is oral surgery?

Oral Surgery is the field of dentistry that, when necessary, delivers a surgical solution for problems with your teeth, gums, jaw, and the surrounding area. The most common oral surgery is tooth extraction, for those who have one of the following:
  • Difficulties with an impacted, partially erupted, or uncomfortably angled wisdom tooth
  • A severely decayed tooth that root canal therapy can’t save
  • A tooth damaged beyond repair following oral trauma
  • Primary teeth that don't fall out on their own

How do you prepare for tooth extraction procedure?

Dr. Schuman and his staff will provide you with the necessary information ahead of your appointment. Typically, it will include the following:
  • Arrange for someone to drive you home after your appointment
  • Don't eat or drink for eight hours before your sugery
  • Take any prescribed medicines (like antibiotics)
  • Stock up on soft foods to eat when you get home
  • Plan your downtime appropriately for after surgery

If you’re in the St. Louis area and you’ve been putting off seeing a dentist — or know that now is the time to take care of an issue that may require this kind of treatment — contact us right away.
